Salvation Army Hurting Because Of Credit Cards
According to a letter to the editor I read this morning from Times Union, it stated the current conditions of the salvation army bell ringers and how little they are receiving in donations compared to a couple of years ago. It seems the salvation army believes it is because we are moving into a more cashless society.
The letter read:”Perhaps an overlooked reason why not as much is making it into the Salvation Army kettles this year is simply that people don’t carry cash or spare change on them as much as they did in the past.
If you go to a store with only a credit card on you, what are you going to put in the kettle? Perhaps another new way of collecting this time of year may need to be checked out.”
In my opinion I kind of agree with the letter because it just happened to me the other day. I was walking out of the supermarket and didn’t have any cash on me because I used my debit card. But I could also see the fact that less is being collected is because there are so many organizations out there now asking for donations. If you give to others you probably will not end up necessarily giving to the salvation army.
That’s just my opinion but I would love to hear your view’s on the subject as well.
